Pres. Trump praises appeals court decision on tariffs
Wednesday, key trade court paused Trump tariff regime
WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - The whiplash over President Donald Trump’s tariffs’ regime continues.
Judges are at odds over whether President Donald Trump has the authority to impose them.
The Court of International Trade blocked President Donald Trump’s tariffs Wednesday night, but now a federal appeals court is reversing that decision, restoring President Trump’s ability to impose tariffs.
Simply, at the beginning of his istration, President Trump began issuing tariffs under the “emergency powers” umbrella, which allows the executive branch to supersede Congress in certain emergency circumstances.
An example would be issuing funds for natural disasters, wars, or pandemics.
The international trade court said President Trump’s tariffs didn’t constitute an emergency. However, this federal appeals court said, no, it is within his Presidential power to do so.
The question remains, how long will the so-called “liberation day” tariffs remain in place.
President Donald Trump took to Truth Social Thursday night expressing his frustration, and asking the Supreme Court to get involved.
Initial hearings are already scheduled for June.
