Supreme Court allows policy to strip migrant protections to go into effect
NEW YORK (Gray Media) - In an emergency decision, the Supreme Court allowed a Trump istration policy to strip migrant protections to go into effect. The decision is expected to affect half a million migrants from Haiti, Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela as lower courts handle challenges to the policy.
There was no rationale given from the justices for allowing the istration’s policy to go into effect as they have not yet heard oral arguments in this case or considered the policy for themselves.
President Trump made deportations a cornerstone of his campaign, including reversing Biden-era policies like this one that allowed people fearing for their lives in their home countries to live legally in the US.
The expectation is this case will likely make its way back to the Supreme Court regardless of how the lower courts rule. The nine justices have had to make emergency rulings regarding several Trump istration executive actions over the last four months.
