Burned body found atop Stone Mountain ruled suicide, park police say
STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A new piece of information may have solved the reasoning behind why a burned body was found at the top of Stone Mountain this weekend.
On Sunday, Stone Mountain Park Police has determined that the manner of person’s death was a suicide after being given a note by the person’s parent.
“The note was very specific about the method and location of the planned suicide which was consistent with the death scene,” park police said.
The body was found by a hiker on Saturday morning, buried under rocks in an area where visitors usually do not go to, according to park police.

Due to the sensitivity of the case, the person’s identity will not be released by park police.
The official cause of death will be given after an autopsy by the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Officer and death investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is finished.
