Escaped Louisiana inmate posts video to Instagram weeks after getting out
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE/Gray News) - One of the escaped Louisiana inmates posted a video to Instagram two weeks after getting out of jail.
According to investigators, Antoine Massey, who escaped from the Orleans Justice Center on May 16 along with nine other inmates, appeared in videos ed to the @_007chucky. The no longer shows any posts.
The videos, widely circulated on social media, show Massey speaking directly to the camera, pleading his case and denying allegations related to his arrest and escape.
In one of the videos, he says, “I’m one of the ones that was let out of Orleans Parish jail where they said I escaped, right?”
In the video, Massey disputes reports that he threatened a jail maintenance worker to facilitate the escape.
Investigators have said Massey threatened to “shank” Sterling Williams if he did not shut off water to the cell where inmates later removed a toilet and climbed through a wall to escape.
Massey claims the domestic abuse battery charge that kept him in jail was based on a false report from a jealous girlfriend. Massey shows paperwork that he said proves she was jumped by peers, not him.
Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson issued a statement in response to the video, encouraging Massey to turn himself in.
“If the individual depicted in the video is indeed Antoine Massey, we strongly urge him to come forward and turn himself in to the proper authorities,” Hutson said. “Cooperating with law enforcement is in his best interest and may help avoid additional charges. It is important that justice is served appropriately and that due process is followed.”
In the posted video clips, Massey also asked public figures for help, including President Donald Trump and rappers Lil Wayne and Meek Mill.
He accuses the State of Louisiana of corruption, arguing he was being unfairly prosecuted and mistreated behind bars. Massey claims he was facing life in prison for charges he did not deserve. He said his decision to leave jail was about escaping an unjust situation.
Massey and fellow escapee Derrick Groves are the last two inmates still on the run from the group of 10 who broke out of the jail on May 16. Authorities recaptured eight of the escapees and arrested more than a dozen people accused of helping them.
The reward for information leading to Massey or Groves is now at $50,000 per inmate, thanks to contributions from Crime Stoppers, the FBI and ATF.
