LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN/Gray News) - A woman in Nebraska will be spending up to two decades in prison after being sentenced for her husband’s death.

Amanda Wright, 42, was sentenced to 19 to 20 years behind bars after she pleaded no contest to manslaughter earlier this year in the death of her husband, 38-year-old Zachary Svoboda.

Prosecutors argued that she intentionally gave her husband a mix of fentanyl and meth that eventually killed him on Aug. 21, 2023.

They also said she made no effort to try and help him or call 911. Officials also said she tried to cover up the circumstances around Svoboda’s death.

According to court records, Wright arranged for other people to discover her husband’s body while she was away from their home on Aug. 23 of that year.

An autopsy conducted on Svoboda’s body revealed he died from acute intoxication by fentanyl and methamphetamine.

Wright was arrested in April 2024 and originally pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder before pleading no contest to a reduced charge of manslaughter.
