2 face aggravated assault charges in shooting outside Augusta motel

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Two people are facing aggravated assault charges after a shooting incident at an Augusta hotel, according to authorities.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says 25-year-old Jessamyne Brown and 26-year-old Quortez Campbell were arrested on Tuesday.

Brown and Campbell are both charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during a crime and multiple charges of criminal damage to property, according to jail bookings.

The sheriff’s office says the shooting happened at the Budget Inn and Suites, located at 954 5th Street, on Monday.

Deputies say while on scene, they located two vehicles — a 2014 Chevrolet Impala and a 2017 Ford Explorer — with several bullet holes in the parking lot.

According to the incident report, the owners of the cars were not on the scene when the shooting happened.

A witness on the scene told deputies she heard at least eight gunshots around 8:30 p.m., according to the report.

The witness stated a woman named “Stephanie” used the building for “prostitution,” deputies say.

Deputies say the witness stated the woman recently robbed an elderly man and he came back to the hotel and started shooting.

The report states the business did not have operating cameras near the incident location. Deputies then made with a security guard at Union Agener, a business across the street from the hotel.

The security guard stated he noticed a white Nissan Altima parked in the parking lot of Union Agener, according to deputies.

According to the report, the security guard told deputies he saw a woman walk up to the Altima and talk with the driver.

The guard told deputies shortly after he heard the driver yell, “Where they at?” and he saw the woman point towards the Budget Inn.

Deputies say the guard saw the driver begin shooting towards the hotel, then drive off. The guard heard someone return three shots at the Altima, according to the report.
