After more than 3 months, Carolina Forest wildfire now out
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - South Carolina officials announced on Wednesday that the Carolina Forest wildfire is now extinguished.
The South Carolina Forestry Commission said the fire has been put out 95 days after it ignited on March 1.

Officials said the decision to declare the fire controlled follows significant rain after officials announced the fire was 100 percent contained last month.
Officials said rain helped keep the water table raised to prevent smoldering hotspots from reigniting.
“The Forestry Commission extends its sincerest gratitude to the dozens of emergency response organizations, including Horry County Fire Rescue, the SC National Guard, the 56 local fire departments who mobilized for the effort and more Horry County government agencies than we can name here, that provided around-the-clock suppression and for months,” read a Facebook post.
