ARC esports program brings national trophy back to Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The Academy of Richmond County’s esports program has brought a national trophy back to Augusta.

On Wednesday, the school’s Street Fighter 6 team, Musketeer Strike, competed in the 2025 PlayVS Cup National Championship, earning the title of National Runner-Up.

The team fell short and went 2–6 against the Science Academy of South Texas.

While they fell just short of the top prize, the team will each receive $3,000 in scholarships.

This achievement marks the culmination of a landmark season for our program.

“Team Musketeer has become a beacon of innovation, resilience, and student achievement—not just in Georgia, but now on a national scale. These victories were made possible through student dedication, strategic coaching, and the unwavering belief that public school esports programs can thrive even with limited resources,” said Israel Butler, Esports coach, engineering and technology teacher, Academy of Richmond County.

  • GHSA A-3A State Champions – Rocket League (Fall 2024)
  • National PlayVs Cup Finalist (#33 Rank) – Rocket League
  • National PlayVs Cup Runner-Up (#2 in the Nation) – Street Fighter 6
  • PlayVs Eastern Division Champions – Street Fighter 6 (Spring 2025)
  • PlayVs Eastern Division Runner-Up – College Football 25 (Fall 2024)
