SAFETY ALERT: Fox tests positive for rabies in Burke County

Burke County officials say a fox tried attacking people in May. It tested positive for rabies.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A rabid fox was discovered in Burke County, health officials say.

On May 28, Burke County Animal Services and the Georgia Department of Health were ed about a fox trying to attack people in the area of Middle Ground Road and Porter Carswell Road.

The fox was removed and tested for rabies.

On Tuesday, the results came back positive.

People are urged to make sure that all dogs, cats and livestock are vaccinated for rabies or up to date on their rabies vaccination by a licensed veterinarian.

Avoid with wild animals and report any between humans and/or pets with wild animals to at least one of these agencies.:
