Police officer was unintentionally shot and killed by fellow officer during chase
CHICAGO (WLS) - The Chicago Police Department is mourning the death of Officer Krystal Rivera.
The 36-year-old was killed during a tactical operation on Thursday night.
Police announced Friday night that it was a fellow officer who unintentionally shot her.

Rivera’s death happened as officers were chasing a suspect who ran into an apartment. Another man then pointed a gun at the officers and shots were fired.
Authorities explained that it was a chaotic situation after the shooting as they tried to get Rivera treatment.
“There was some type of malfunction in that vehicle that caught fire, but assisting officers came in and she was transferred to another vehicle and then driven to the hospital,” Chicago Police Superintendent Larry Snelling said. “The other officers who were transporting are doing fine at this point.”
Several people have been arrested.
Rivera had been on the force for four years and was the mother of a young daughter.
