MONETTA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - If there’s one place that connects Ridge Spring to Monetta, it’s the home of the Trojans football program.

The gathering place has become more than that–it’s a local watering hole, and a place for hometown pride to shine.

Starting this fall, Ridge Spring-Monetta’s football team will be playing on a state-of-the-art turf field for the first time ever.

Out are the days of them playing on a grass field, and in are the days of them looking like a top program in South Carolina.

“Our athletes put in just as much time, they put in just as much work on the field and in the classroom, and it’s just nice to see them get facilities that their hard work really deserves,” said Jay Brannon, head coach at Ridge Spring-Monetta.

The need for a new field, not a Trojan horse.

“It will kind of be bittersweet, but at the same time, just coming over here having one place, and again, we’ve got a full 100 yards to practice on. We’ll miss the old girl, but this is pretty special,” said Brannon.

Ridge-Spring Monetta is one of several Aiken County schools to receive an upgrade ahead of the 2025 season.

“Maybe ours will be one of the best out of all of them. It’s definitely an upgrade from what we had. The kids are excited, the community is excited,” he said.

And the kids are more than just excited to try it out.

“The biggest thing is now they’re like, I have to get my turf tape down. They’re already figuring out their outfits, and they’re swag, but it’s been a lot of fun to see their faces and the excitement,” said Brannon.

Brannon says the field is expected to be completed by July.
